ToH Training Tuesday #01: Machine Gun Teams

Welcome to the first installment of Training Tuesdays. Every other week, we'll take a look at one unit/strategy/faction/command tree and discuss the ins and outs, and provide quick tips to help your Company of Heroes game. This week we talk about Machine Gun Teams. We start by discussing the differences between the two most widely used MG Teams: The MG42 and the US HMG. Then we discuss the veterancy advantages of the two units, and finally we go over some tips and tricks that you can use with your MG teams, along with how to counter them. I remember this episode well. Unfortunately somewhere along the way the master file has vanished, and I only have this lower quality version. It's still one of the best ToH shows to date. A great game on a great map. Rails and Metal has always been about who could control the center, and this game is no exception. Both sides fight extremely hard to control the middle of the map, which results in an 88mm flak '36 to switch sides multiple times during the match. Keep an eye out for the BergerTiger this game, it plays a very important role! Check out the video after the jump.

Welcome One, Welcome All, Tales of Heroes is officially back in business with episode 76: Rusty As Hell. Join Rogers and myself as we provide color and strategic commentary for Company of Heroes games. Many people have spoken to me over the years that watching the show gave them the confidence to actually play a multiplayer RTS for the first time. Others had mentioned that this show was the whole reason they ever bought CoH in the first place. We hope to keep bringing you guys entertaining video replay reviews as well as useful training videos for the newer players.

Tales of Heroes...Returns?

Tales of Heroes is a video podcast series starring hosts Bridger and Vitensby as they provide play by play commentary of Company of Heroes matches. The show ran from 2006 through 2008 and produced over 70 episodes averaging over 3,000 unique viewers per week. There was also an audio-only version of the show which has been partially made available here.

Hello Everyone! As promised, Vitensby and I have teamed up yet again to bring you one more (final?) Tales of Heroes show! In this popular replay, AshestoAshes takes his Infantry Company on the offensive against House969's Terror Doctrine. House uses a lot of medic bunkers and is quite successful in cutting off Ashes in the early game. Can ashes make a big enough comeback to win? Check out the video below!

This was one of the few episodes of ToH that really differed from the rest. Rather than comment on a replay of a game that had already been played, this is a recording of a live match between the hosts of Tales of Heroes (Bridger and Vitensby). You can watch from Bridger's point of view as he moves around the map, and fights for territory. It also features some sparse commentary from each of the players as they are playing. If you've never seen it, it's definitely worth a look.

Here's another great update from ToH past. It was a milestone in ToH history as this is the very last vanilla Company of Heroes (1.7) game. Nappysik plays as the defensive Wehrmact and makes good use of 88 positions while Challanger Lee takes the Airborne for one last spin. Stay tuned to the 28 minute mark to see one of the classic CoH moments: A strafing run gets shot down and kamikazis into a whole German outpost! A great discussion ensues in the middle of the game when one of the players has to leave his computer for a while, so why couldn't the game be paused? It's time for another Classic Tales of Heroes show. This one is certainly one of the more memorable from the collection. A defensive Wehrmact player matches up against a...somewhat clueless American Armor company player. The result? Hilarity at it's best. I'm pretty sure the hosts laughed more in this episode than any other ever recorded. But don't take my word for it, check it out yourself!

Another classic ToH episode here. Whereas our first showcase (ToH #4) was a massive armor battle, this game is extreme infantry combat. We see the standard rifles, volks, MGs, mortars, and snipers, did we mention the sniper? Hans? He is perhaps the most successful sniper in ToH history, and will forever be immortalized by this episode.

Here it is! The first of a "Best of" Tales of Heroes posts. This was one of the classic early CoH matches on Semois. Armor vs. Terror with Cepha pulling in Calliopes and microing his Shermans out of harms way while Ahenian tries to counter with Stug spam and Tiger Ace micro. An amazing battle between two of the great CoH players.
