Tales of Tyria #20: Aftershock

Despite the 3 hour show we had last week, there was still tons of info that we needed to follow up with this week.  Two major blog updates, another Reddit AMA (ask me anything), and a tangent here or there.  We also discuss the possible upcoming beta test, or do we?

I thought you guys were broadcasting on Mondays, so I missed the live show, and it was a good one. I have an idea for the death penalty problem that I think Fr3elancer may agree with. Each time you die there's a line of text that says, \\\"you're an idiot\\\" growing on your screen. So after about 5-10 deaths, \\\"YOU'RE AN IDIOT!\\\" covers your entire screen; informing you that you should play better.

An interesting topic I think you should bring up in a future show is the Trait system. It's essentially GW2's talent system, and we all know how much of a different that makes in play-style. I was looking over the GW2 Wiki and saw ANet really provided some diverse bonuses to each class' set of Traits. Maybe pick a few particularly interesting ones, and have the crew discuss. I'm curious to have your take on the whole system, since there seems to be a lot there in the way of customization.

Once again, I enjoyed the show, and I almost hope you don't get into to Beta next week so you guys can do another.

Hey Bridger!

Again cool podcast! ;)

I have a question concerning the Beta:

What is, if you are in the Beta and you want to know if your friend or guild mate is in the Beta too, because you want to play with him or her? How you manage that? I mean, you can't tell anybody that you are in Beta, so that is kind of a stupid scenario.

greetings,

rotator

That's exactly what we were joking about on the podcast Rotator. The best idea I've come up with is find a way to agree with all your friends "OK, if you get into the beta, meet in the park of divinity's reach at a certain time." But that still doesn't guarantee that you'll be on the same server :\ No easy way around it with the NDA prohibiting even mentioning that you got in.

Yeah I got the jokes.^^ So your fans will recognise after next podcast. xD
Maybe here in Austria the spies from ArenaNet and NcSoft aren't so many as in the USA.
I mean, why should ArenaNet send a spy in this ******** valley at nomansland, where I live?^^

When they talk about having harder death penalties for WvW in the last third of the vid it reminds me of Aion and how if you had a lot of abyss points, you didn't want to die even once. So a lot of times the best players would bail out the second the tide seemed to be turning or not participate at all in the taking over of forts. I think this ended up impacting the game more negatively than positively as the only way to get a lot of PVP points was to avoid pvp after a certain point... In the same way people that had more to lose would end up avoiding pvp if they had high costs like losing your real gear, ect. In Aion I found my self wishing you didn't lose abyss points at all, not because I wanted more, but because I was always low on people to fight.

About the Platforming in GW2, there is something like that in Swtor, there are Datacrons that will increase one of your states or give your matrix shared that can be used to craft a relic which you can equip on your character.

The path that leads you to that datacron is dangerous & tricky! some mighty lead for your character death!

Here is anther platform video from GW2, enjoy :) http://youtu.be/8JCeTG7zWqs
