MY QUESTION WAS READ YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH I FEEL SPECIAL!
I also wanted to ask a question. Will I be notified prior to the email giving the server that I will, in fact, be getting that email? I wasn't aware before that this had qualifiers and though I'm sure I'd be accepted in a perfect world (I mean, I'm mature and I like to think I'm kinda good at things sometimes and stuff) but now I need to begin finding my own server in the event that this doesn't work out. This acceptance email wouldn't need to say "WERE GOING TO THIS SERVER" as I understand the purpose of this process but just saying "YOU WILL BE INVITED TO OUR SERVER".
Also, in a perfect world, important news is always yelled at you. The more you know.
Great episode you guys. I love the podcast. My only gripe, and it is more from the previous episode, is that Bridger talks over people way too much. Now I've done podcasting and I know there is a bit of a delay at times, but if there is any way to eliminate that this would be A+++ in my book. As it is right now it's just A++...Can't justify the extra + with the talkign over eachother.
Keep it up guys!
Well something I wanted to point out deals with the mailing list. I wanted to point out that even if you do limit telling people which server the alliance is going to roll on even just 30 minute's before launch, word will still travel through the internet as to what that server may be. Even if you hand pick specific people and tell them to not tell anyone. People are still going to make threads, and tell there friend's who in turn spread it around even more etc. Which completely negates the entire point of the "acceptance" process as I call it. Because in the end, word is going to get out as to which server the ascension alliance is on and people will come there from all break's of the community. Be it trolls, fantastic players, crappy players, people focused on pvp or people who detest it. They'll be there whether you want them to be there and accept them or not. There isn't any way to control who is allowed to join the server, and by extension the alliance and who isn't. You just can't control that. Not even if you wait 5 minute's before launch to tell the world. I do understand keeping it hush hush so the entire alliance can get online. But if you give any type of for warning you'll still have the same problem. The only way to truly get everyone onto the server of your choice, is to wait until the entire alliance has rolled and THEN announce it. Which also defeat's the purpose of letting people know so they can roll on the right server.
Otherwise, I just wanted to say great show. I just discovered it a few day's ago thanks to a video linked in a forum I frequent.
@David
Of course everything you say is true, but the fewer people you tell originally the longer it will take to spread. There's no way we keep it secret once we actually roll (as soon as somebody sees TL tags they're going to tell people who will tell more people, etc.) but the fewer that get told initially the slower that rollout happens.
So I think the crux of what you are saying is "If you can't hide it by telling some people, you might as well tell everyone at the same time." I can see the logic in that, but I'm not the one making the decision. That's up to Freelancer and the other Guild Leaders. If they think it's worth going for that extra time by only telling few people, I guess that's teh way it's going to be.
Who knows? Maybe only 100 people sign up for the mailing list and then we just tell everybody. But the opposite is true as well. If 3,000 people sign up we can't just tell all of them at once.
@Dollada06
Sometimes it's me trying to keep the conversation on track/move it along, and sometimes it's just me getting too excited and needing to put my own $.02 in. I will work on the later, but the former is important to keeping the show engaging :)
Thanks for the constructive feedback!
Freelancer is so cocky, its annoying. Every show, every time.
@ Anyone
He appeals to a certain portion of our audience.
@Bridger
Of course, give your audience what they want... but sometimes I want to punch him.
@Bridger
Oh wow, I honestly didn't expect a reply. Thanks for taking the time. I feel.. special. But back on point.
I'm not saying what they're doing is wrong or anything like that. If I was in the same position as Freelancer and the other guild leaders and I was trying to get my entire alliance on the same server, I would do the exact same thing. Because it's better for the alliance as a whole to get on the same server.
But the thing is, the fan's in question this is directed at already frequent forums, and you and I both know there are quite a few gamers who are less the modest. some of the ones selected are going to brag and in the end it might not work nearly as well as intended and it may have all been for naught.
They might give just enough of a forwarning that it spreads far enough for the chosen server to get full with waiting fans and even then it's going to come at a cost, The people who don't get told are going to feel as though they're not important enough. It'll make them feel as if the alliance is deeming them unworthy and generally not good enough and all that. Which could cause a very bitter taste in the community.
I understand the need for it, But not everyone looks at both sides of the coin like I do. I just have to put myself into the mentality of the guild leaders and I know it's what needs to be done and what need's to be done isn't always something everyone is going to like. Some will understand the need for why it's happening. But some will be bitter because they weren't picked and some will be so excited to play (I think we can all empyathize with that) they won't even check there email before logging in and they could end up rolling on the wrong server, even if picked, and thus have to pay for a transfer which in turn will be blamed on the alliance. I just hope it works out as intended because it could have a very big backlash. That's all I meant. Again thank you for responding, And apologies for the wall of text. :P
@Anyone.
The same could be said about the majority of the human population. Even the one's we love.
@Bridger
I agree with you that some sort of incentive would help to keep losing servers in WvW, but I do not agree with the idea of rewards lasting for the next 2 weeks. The reason for this is that you can't just give the rewards to the losing server (would give them an advantage) for those 2 weeks, and, if you give them to all the servers the losing server would be at a disadvantage for the next 2 weeks putting them in a potentially perpetual losing spot.
@Novos Phantos
The idea is that if server X gives up and gets 100,000 points, they will earn 10% magic find, 9% critical crafting success, etc. (all the bonuses that are already in the game). However, if they stick it out and get 125,000 points, even though they still lose, they get 11% magic find and 10% critical crafting success, etc. for 2 whole weeks, not just the few remaining hours of the cycle.
The bonuses you get from WvW don't really give you an advantage IIRC.
